Historic Preservation Committee

Seeking members

Purpose

Serve as the neighborhood's liaison to the City of Orlando Historic Preservation Board (HPB) while helping preserve and promote the historic character of Lake Cherokee. The committee provides a connection between residents, the neighborhood association, and the city on historic preservation topics, initiatives, and issues affecting the neighborhood's architectural and cultural heritage.

Immediate priorities

  • Identify preservation, education, and neighborhood history projects that align with Mayor's Matching Grant educational and cultural initiatives.
  • Develop concepts for future preservation-related grant opportunities.

  • Historic Preservation Board updates and coordination
  • Historic district education and resources
  • Preservation advocacy and awareness
  • Neighborhood history initiatives
  • Preservation-related grant opportunities
  • Supporting projects that maintain the character of Lake Cherokee
  • Communicating preservation-related matters between the HPB and residents

Time commitment: 1-4 hours per month

Meetings: Quarterly (virtual or hybrid) or as needed, with updates shared through Slack.

Volunteers needed: Co-Chair and 3-5 committee members
